I'm pro–open membership. PublicVoice 2.0 might encourage some actual design / industry discussion and new members would make things interesting.

I understand not wanting to open the gates to noobs / spammers but there's ways around this.

An invite system is one way. Forcing new users to apply via portfolio / written submission (like some private torrent clubs) is another.

P.S. The redesign is really nice, UX wise it's almost perfect. Totally agree you could shop this around as an improved VBulletin. My only criticism would be that it's a little uncharismatic for a design forum. I realise it's still early days so your priorities lie with site structure / functionality (and you've done a superb job) but if it launches publicly it would need stronger branding to be successful.

If I was unacquainted with QBN or the personal jokes I probably wouldn't even know it was a design forum, so it probably wouldn't hurt to make it look like one.

    • I hate the idea of a hyper active forum full of newbs. Invite is the way to go.inteliboy
    • In the other thread, didn't we discuss applying for membership, filling out a survey of some kind?mg33
    • I don't like design for the sake of designset
    • Meaning I think the threads are key, no point designing just to make it look pretty, imo. I hear you though.set
