i dont know if this is something ive never noticed before, or just my illustrator acting oddly... but when i set the default colors (black/white) the black is not pure. is there any reason for this? is there any way to set the default?
thanks

do you mean when you save for the web or copy it into Photoshop the black isn't a pure black?
If so, you probably have your document settings at CMYK. Change them to RGB under File-->Document Color Mode-->RGB.
Hope that helps.

no
i mean on the tools palette... you know how you can click on the little white over black... and it will default the colors to that? well my black is coming up as 231F20 not 000000

the default black is a pantone black, it's not exactly the same as web black.
but if you switch the document mode to rgb and the color mode to rgb you can go web black,000000

i figured it had to do with that... thanks!
