I have to travel a fair distance to work. About 3.5hours a day travelling.
I've just been offered a job thats about 30minutes away but i'm not sure if i should take it
it sounds like a no brainer BUT
I like my current job, the projects are good and i get on really well with the rest of the office. This new job sounds ok BUT i don't know how stable it is?.
At least my current place has loads of work coming in.i don't know what to do?

why not move closer to the job you want?

good question.
I'd just got married and bought a house ... and then i got my current job.

Does the new job pay better?

slightly.
But i've been doing some alright work at my current job so a payrise should be just around the corner

In heavy traffic, I spend the same time as you travelling to my job. Sometimes more. But if you like your job, I guess its worth it. Do you spend 300$/month in gas too?

I have to get the train.
It costs about the same.i am getting some driving lessons soon, though

try to find out some information about the new agency, if you feel good about it...take the job:-)
consider that saving 2.5 hours a day means a lot, specially if you have family...and you sound like you will soon have family (got married, bought a house,...time for babies!)
IMO, I wouldnt be afraid of change. But do some research on the new job first! avoid being disapointed!
and if you really cant come to a decision...well, then try this:

thanks.
for all the advice. There's no one i can really to speak to about this in work. I think they'd all think i was leaving them in the lurch.

i'm in a very similar situation. I travel about 140 miles a day to to work. I recently took another job that is maybe 3 miles away from my new apartment. The new job is completely different from what i'm doing now and i took a small pay cut, but i am looking forward to having extra time each day to do whatever the hell i want.
i was somewhat scared of change as well, but i'm really excited. it's cool that you really like your job, but just think of the extra time you'll have with your wife and to yourself. if you do take the new job, just leave on good terms at your current place in case things don't work out. hopefully they will be understanding considering your commute.
good luck to ya.

3.5 hours. F that. I would go nuts. If you do have kids it sounds like you'd have no time for them. If you add up all the extra hours you'd save over time its gotta be worth it. Shame to leave a good job like that though. Have you ever asked if you could work from home X days per week to reduce commute time.
I think in one year you would save around 27 full days of time.
Sounds worth it to me.

3.5 x 5days = 17.5 hours weekly
17.5 x 48weeks = 840 hours
840hours / 24hours = 35 daysAt the end of a year you will have spent 35 entire days getting to and from work.
I agree with Auricom. Explain your situation, leave on good terms and give it a go.
Life's short.
