How do I make the large red bar on the preloader scene in the link below go as fast/slow as the preload time?
http://www.akadvertising.com/med…
However long it takes to load the homepage behind the scenes, I want the speed of the red bar to match that.
Hope that makes sense. Right now it is just sitting in the first frame of the preload and plays without relation to load time.
how do I go about this?
thanks,
bB

there are stacks of preloader tutes and examples at the usual suspects like: flashkit.com

//put this in the first frame of your main timeline
//label this frame "preloader", and another frame where the animation starts "main"
//make your red bar a movie clip, with an instance name of "loader" with the animation tween of the bar lasting 100 frames
//also if you want, include dynamic text boxes with the variables "totalbytes", "loadedbytes", "frame" etc to show the progress
stop();
this.totalbytes = this.getBytesTotal();
this.totalkbytes = Math.ceil(this.totalbytes/1024);
this.onEnterFrame = function() {
this.loadedbytes = this.getBytesLoaded();
this.loadedkbytes = Math.ceil(this.loadedbytes/1024...
this.frame = int(this.loadedbytes/(this.total...
tellTarget (this.loader) {
gotoAndStop(this.frame);
}
if (this.loadedbytes == this.totalbytes) {
this.gotoAndStop("main");
delete (this.onEnterFrame);
}
};enjoy....

gettin' close:
http://akadvertising.com/media59…
but there is a slight glitch. right before the real red bar loads along with the total file size, another one starts to play right before it and then disappears. you'll see.
I checked. No dupes of the animation. Must be something in my coding.
Last little help needed. Can you decipher the problem?

here is the code I have on the first frame of the preloader scene if it helps:
total_bytes = _root.getBytesTotal();
loaded_bytes = _root.getBytesLoaded();
remaining_bytes = total_bytes-loaded_bytes;
percent_done = int((loaded_bytes/total_bytes)*1...
bar.gotoAndStop(percent_done);
ifFrameLoaded ("HOME", 1) {
gotoAndPlay("HOME", 1);
}

- < probably could have found a better gifshapesalad
- Lazyload content - afaik safari supports it these days. Loaders on content sites are... well, I don't like them.detritus
- I think it's good to have one, and it doesn't appear if you don't need it.dbloc
- this one is horrible though. what's with the jerk before the animation.dbloc
- Perhaps it's good to have some sort of indicator, but generally these appear in front of the content, or act as a block so that ALL needs to be loaded.detritus
- ...I think that just makes for a more painful user experience. Imho, anyway.detritus
- do it pure css with a delay. If you are waiting for a pure css animation to load your bigger problem is your connection.dbloc

- I think lazy loading is the way. never keen on a big empty page + preloaded approach.shapesalad
- agreed lazy loading is def a standard.dbloc

I always thought it was worth having a preloader if it was real content with something engaging as long as you could make it load quickly enough.
