Dead end job

Maybe I am alone on this but has anyone worked at a job where one day you just realize it totally sucks serious donkey balls? I mean currently I have to have one of the lamest jobs ever created: DVD Menuing/Compressing. A job tantamount to being a male model. It really requires no skill and very limited creative input. Hey don’t get me wrong I’ve seen some pretty great menuing done on DVD and trust me, as soon as such titles like “I Downloaded a Ghost” “Message in a Cellphone” and “Pimps up Hoe’s Down” and other such great C rate blockbusters get some money to drop, I’ll be all over that shit. But until then what? I guess the hard thing about it is that it’s a great company ran by great people and they treat me like gold. But regardless of how great the environment is... the fact remains that the work sucks and the future of the company doesn’t look as bright as it once did. Anyone else feel idle?

hey! you live in calgary? me too! i just quit my job at smed international, been almost three weeks of unemployment! but anyways it feels great to be free, trust me. now if i could only find a job somewhere else...
- umhello0
yes, dead end jobs are by far donkey ball munching wastes of time. DVD menuing or whatever sounds a bit more fun than a job that requires you to lift something and move it to point a to point b, without a thank you, but instead lots of attitude. Or perhaps you would like my job now, I get to call random people and try to convince them that they should buy seasonal tickets to a shitty repertory theater. YAY!
Then again, if it weren't for those idle jobs, you wouldn't appreciate the great jobs!

Yea makes sense. I guess I can just continue to sit until I can't stand it anymore. Leah whats your take on jobs here right now? Bunk?

it is always for the money, isnt it?
i worked in the agency that created the whole graphic/art direction stuff for the sonar music festival. it used to be a cool place. step by step it developed into a lame place. lame works, stupid bosses lost in the "marketing" world (ya, know, meetings and meetings to make us believe that we had to push ourselves further and further for the company...blablabla)....
the company died and more than 20 persons were kicked out.
ouch.
sorry mate, time never stop you will find something different, sooner or later

Just been made redundant from a lame, going nowhere job. Now looking for something with more future and more interesting, have an interview on the 8th

why do you just sit tight and suck it up? do somethign about it, make it fun, interesting or better paid.
New things need to be done all the time at a workplace, offer to do some of them on a regular basis. Eventually you'll find yourself being responsible for a lot of stuff, which is a good argument to get a raise.
I'm so sick of people claiming to have dead-end jobs. Your job is what you make it. There are no such things as dead end jobs.
- kodap0
jox, unfortunately there are.. you wouldn't wanna be serving at a restaurant, would you? .. Now bring me my lunch, please!
- jox0
If I serve food twice as fast as the other waitors, I would, logically, earn twice as much. Would you consider that dead-end?
- kodap0
no you wouldn't. you're not competing with your work mates. serving food sucks major ass. the only good thing you can expect is a small raise once a year believe me.

lol

- pascii0
imagin your job is to clean there, at the '*hole exhibition' ...

a dead end job is what i call working at an industrial laundry rolling rugs or folding shop towels... i had the luxury of only having to work there for a couple of summers... i felt extremely sorry for the other people though...
- quoined0
oh yeah and having to run these huge industrial washers/ dryers where run-ins with maggots or other interesting smells were not out of the ordinary
