ok, this is simple (I think):
How do I get text to wrap around an object? I see the 'text to path' thingy but thats not it. I'm trying to get lines of text to wrap around the side of a circle I have on the page.
I know this is easy...I just forgot how to do it :P

path type tool - 3rd from the left in the dropdown text tool menu on your toolbox.
you're trying to get text to go around the circle, right?

Yeah, I'm trying to get text around the circle. When I use the path type tool it puts the text 'inside' the circle...hmm
- gruntt0
'inside' as in left to right filling the circle or 'inside' as in flipped inside instead of outer edge of circle.
(you're making me feel dumb... but i can help you)

Ohh i see, no I dont want text to go around the circle (in a circle), I want the text to flow in straight lines with each line moving around to form circle from the negative shape...
- WildPony0
...but not inside the circle. I want the text outsite the circle following the shape...

i see, illlustrator doesn't really like this but you can do it. use the default text tool. click on the edge of your circle (the icon will change to parentheses when you're on the line. You can now start typing but, unfortunately, you'll have to "return" as you approach the opposite side of the circle.
i hope this makes sense.

shit, i didn't read your follow up before i typed all that crap.

hey thanks for trying gruntt!
Maybe this is hard...hmm it seems like something simple to do. Im about ready to open up InDesign and see if I can get somewhere in there...grrr

lol - no prob. sorry i couldn't help. i know what you're trying to do but I can't get it to work either. Once you create a compound path or mask the text tool no longer plays nice.
good luck.

i'd just convert it to paths and place it letter by letter on a circle guide.

What about: First create the no fill circle. Then create a no fill text box. Then move your type cursor into the top left corner. It will blink the insert point. Type into no fill text box. Tell circle to move to front . Select both items. Choose Object/Text Wrap. You must convert to paths before pasting into Photoshop, though.
