yeah, that painting/piece of work is no more unless the new graffiti over it is a sticker...

...have they spelt 'al quaida' wrong? shouldn't it be 'al quaeda'..?

i think it's Al Qaeda. but what a shame that's a classic banksy, it's the one on Old Street right?
- Bluejam0
yeah it's in old street and i pass it every day on the number 55 bus.
saw it this morning, really liked that piece as well.

well f'ck al qaeda and f'ck those who f'cked up that banksy piece.

It's only graffiti. It can't live forever.
Hasn't it been up there for nearly 5 years or something?
That's a good stretch for an illegal piece.

it's a shame.
and the new message is mediocre and bland.
- O_Two0
...not that Banksy's work has ever been mediocre or bland.
- clint0
ha ha, maybe, but writing 'fxxk al quaeda' on any kind of wall or space doesn't help or improves anyone's mind or perception.
it's just bland crap.
and being on top of some nice but maybe disputed artwork doesn't make it any better.

banksy got banksy'd

It's just good that someone's moved to do it.
Maybe it's not trying to be a piece of art, maybe it's just someone that genuinely feels the need to write something like that, to communicate a message like that (however badly spelt), in a public forum.
I know that amongst the mixed feelings I was experiencing last thursday, that's pretty close interpretation of some of them.
That's the good thing about graffiti; there are no rules, and anybody can do it.
I also think that that's what Banksy's work is often trying to capture, that art, the walls and the city is there for anyone to express themselves.
When he sneaks a painting into the Tate, he's saying that anyone can do it... anyone, and everyone deserves to have their art on a wall, in a gallery or on the street. Art like that isn't precious, and neither is his work.
Power to the people.
