I've just (re)discovered them... again.
Haven't listened to them in 10 years.

R.E.M. vs U2

I'm getting old. I heard some U2 sonfs from The Joshua Tree album on a Classic Rock station this weekend.

Meh, I used to be a big REM fan (about 10 years ago, too), but then started getting more and more fed up with them as Stipe became more 'artiste' - more insular, nancy and annoying. And their music didn't keep up.
Could've forgiven them if I hadn't seen them do the most miserly, paint-by-numbers set at Glastonbury a coupla years back - I mean, what's the point in just turning up and going through the motions? If you don't believe in your music and give it a good go - why the fuck should I?
That said, I think I'll stick 'Monster' & 'New Adventures in..' to today's playlist.

they were great up to green, after that, I sort of lost interest.
I remember talking to Michael stipe at a pub in Perth of all places. I was so drunk, I spat all over him.

my 3 yr old daughter has discovered 'its the end of the world as we know it' and won't stop singing it...thinks its the funniest thing in the world...she loves shouting the 'Leonard
Bernstein' part....she also likes 'losing my religion' as well...tho she keeps saying that she thinks Stipe sounds sad when he says 'thats me in the corner'....she thinks maybe he needs a hug.

I'm old, but I was always into old and new. The amazing thing is these guys are still together.
It was all the way down hill after New Adventures In Hi Fi. I think the drummer took their soul with them when he left.
Up to that point, they had about a decade worth of albums with all good songs on them. And they would release something every year. I miss them.
