(Jun 29 07, 08:22)Yeah..but the artists have to play this right..if they can hande their own online sales and merchandising they'll definitely make more money - more working musicians actually making a living, althought the era of the supastar is probably over...

Shame. Foop was the best music store on the highstreet IMO
- morilla0
yeah, that era is dead. It's all up to the artist now. And we know how business minded musicians are. There are some out there ( a small amount) that can handle it. But the rest are just gonna float around in medicroty making enough to pay for gas, rent and some food.

i went to the fopp on cockburn st in edinburgh this lunchtime and it had all the shutters up - closed!
have they already closed these stores?
or maybe the folk that worked in that store read the news this morning and thought bugger it im not going into work today then.

na, they've closed. notice how for the last few weeks they haven't taken card transactions? trying to build up cash assets or something cos they had no credit left. Buying that bankrupt company thinking they could get away from its debts must rank as the stoopidest business decision in the history of retail.
It'll be missed, but its never been as good since they implemented central buying, used to be a guy in each shop deciding what each shop should stock, that's what made the selection so good. Ditching vinyl for DVDs was bad too.

(Jun 29 07, 08:34)And that is a dramatic improvement over most of them floating around in medocrity and sleeping on their girlfriend or parents couch.

i agree it was one of the good stores on the high street but industries need to change with the times.
it makes me chuckle some times when you type a brand as a domain only to find its someone else....that always leaves me thinking the brand was probably late at adopting teh interwebs

Fuck, that was a big chunk of the business at my old agency, we did all their design work.

I wonder how it's affecting them?

They were great clients but unfortunately there was a lot of in-fighting and top man was a fucking arsehole, a true paranoid brainless coke-warrior. There was a big shake-up last year and he sacked most of the management, then took on a couple of ex-HMV upper management figures to sort out the business. Glad it worked out for him.
