What is the avg. battery life fora Powerbook/Macbook Pro?
Up until last week or so, I got at least 2.5 hours on my 4 month old MBP. But these last two days, it's gotten MUCH worse, just like that... I fire up, 40 minutes later it reaches 30% and BOOM - not five more minutes until it shuts down completely.
The cuntbags at Apple Store says there's no exchange policy on batteries. Bunch of BS. I have a 2 year old Powerbook at home with five times the battery life!!
What you gettin, and how old is it?

Laptop batteries in general suck.

Who are you talking to?!
There is a policy, they guarantee runtimes, and your battery is under warranty.... I'd call Applecare and escalate your complaint to CEO level if you have to (I've done that once with BT, to COO level at least, was interesting)... shouldn't be a problem really.
iStat Pro will show the number of cycles and 'Health' of the battery, which you can report to Applecare.

My personal MBP (6 months old) battery crapped out completely about a month ago... Apple replaced it under warranty.
My work MBP (1 month old) is working just fine.

Screen brightness has a ton to do with battery life. They cite that often in the new machines. But yeah, Applecare makes a big diff. Stores don't deal with appleccare very well.

Thanks ribit!
I talked to some little floor manager douche who thought he was highest in the food chain.
I've considered taking it to the higher ups but not sure if I have the energy right now. Just wanted to hear whether this was common among batteries.

Hmm, interesting czawada - how did you get it replaced - did you contact apple right away?
This is odd, I was actually in an Apple(tm) shop. You'd think they'd have the same policies world wide...

Seems like they aren't as consistent as they used to be... but calling Applecare direct still seems to be the most effective...
I've had several batteries replaced, some for low runtimes, others as part of the safety recalls... I've had so many Macs, I just assume they break a lot now, but I always have Applecare and treat it more like a lease scheme where you just keep getting new bits..

they even sent me a bag o frubber feet after some fell off my old Powerbook...
my next project is to get them to replace the missing chrome letters on my MacBook Pro, cos right now it says ' c oo ro' and I bought a 'MacBook Pro' dammit.

Make sure you calibrate it every once in a while.

I called the Apple Care line as we don't have an Apple store in Vancouver yet.
I took it into a reseller first and they gave some bullshit story about how they had to take it in for a week to look at it.
So I went home and called Apple and said I know it's the battery, I know others who had the same problem so just give me a new battery. They sent one out in 3 days and I sent back the old one.
The MBP's are known to have battery issues.

What you mean, Canada?

Thanks czawada!! I will fight them for a new battery too.

open the system profiler. under the power section, make sure the reading for make sure the reading for full charge capacity is between 5000 and 5500 mAh. chances are it's lower and that means your battery has crapped out. if it's under warranty, they should do a swap at the store, no questions asked.
i've had numerous problems with mine, right after the 1 year warranty expired to boot, and now 2 people in my office are having power trouble with theirs also. these things are pieces of shit.

(Aug 29 07, 09:44)hahaa I know it's not possible but it was funny to me...

Apple really needs to make some stores in Vancouver and Ottawa. I hear there is one being put into Montreal right now. Ottawa will be getting an Apple retailer soon, but not an official Apple store. It sucks when you have to return it for repairs or whatever.

jox, I meant this:

(Aug 29 07, 09:23)I think you are taking the complain to the wrong area, the apple store is just that, a store.
they care about selling you stuff and thats it, the genious bar is ovbiously a scam since most of the time is full of retards (that goes to the people wearing the black shirt and to the ones in line cause they cant connect the ir ipod to a their commodore 64)These kind of complains you should direct to Apple it self, not the stores. Call them up, you have a warranty? let them know.
they will make the arrangements so the retards at the store will replace it or fix it.
you probably talked to a 16 year old kid that knows how to use garageband very well.
