swap depths in flash????

Afternoon!
I'm hoping that some flash wizzo can tell me what I am doing wrong here.
I have a movie clip (labelled A) that contains a button labelled area and a movieclip labelled graphic.
On the frame in mc's time line is this script
http://pastebin.com/m51fbbb3eBasically the script makes the mc'A' attach itself to the cursor and springs back to it's original position when the cursor moves a certain distance. All works fine!
But when I try to some script to make the movie clip 'A' swap depths and sit above other mc's on the stage it stops attaching itself to the mouse!
When I add the swap depths inside the mc along with that script I put on pastebin it gives me errors and doesn't work period - sometimes it doesn't even load the movie!
What do I need to add to the scripting to make it work from within the mc 'A' ???
or is it that I need to add some script straight onto mc 'A' ????
Really is doing my nut in this is - been at it all friggin' day and still none the wiser.
The swap depths script works dandy when on a normal mc with no addtional code contained within but not with mc 'A'....
***starts banging head off desk***
anyone restore my sanity please?

Can you not generate an empty MC at a depth of your choice, then attach mcA to that from the library, then to the cursor?

(Oct 17 07, 07:51)ditto, also, i would stay away from nesting code into movieclips.. try to keep it all in one place.. makes the scope situation and debugging a lot faster

thanks for the replies fellas - appreciate it.
The mc's are scripted to spring back to the origin when the cursor moves so far from the origin - would that still work using that method?
...okay google here I come
thanks fellas
