Afternoon all!
Can anyone put me out of my misery with a problem that I have with a .fla file.
I got the file from good ol' flashkit and it does just the job apart from one thing - it only works when it is on the timeline and not when I try to move it to an mc on the stage.
I have tried to suss out what stops where - what needs adding to and what needs to be renamed - but all to no avail - could one of you flash heads take a look at the fla and see if it is possible to make the game work in a movie clip or if I am wasting my time in trying to make it happen??? The source .fla is here:
http://www.flashkit.com/movies/G…It might be something blindingly obvious - but I have spent a whole day f*nnying around with it and not got any where close!

have a look for variables and mc's with _root in front of them. replace with the correct amount of _parent

...cheers skt - do I replace all refs to _root with _parent? or do I need to leave some as they are?
Appreciate the prompt response hombre

that'd depend on how "deeply" nested the relative clips are.... you might need to do _parent._parent._parent
- StratusGD0
or add this line of code on the timeline:
movieclip_mc._lockroot = true;
(where movieclip_mc is the instance name of the movieclip)lockroot will tell anything within that movieclip to look at the root level of the movieclip, not the root level of the timeline when using _root.
- oooh nice :D
from which player version ??emecks - 7. I actually found it from someone here on NT/QBN a while back, and use it all the time.
And, if you need to go to the document root, you can use _root._parent._rootStratusGD - stupid text cuttoff.
_root._parent._root if have used lockroot on an MC, and end up needing to access the document root.StratusGD
- oooh nice :D

...okay - from what I can see they are all on the first level - like _root.mc_name - I'll try that and see if it works - thanks skt

...ahh! that was something that I was trying to remember!
lockroot! that's the fella!
thanks for the pointers!
