Does anyone know of a simple time tracking application, which I can start and stop the time and then have it export a txt file or log file at the end of the day, for MAC?
One that is very simple.
Just enter project, hit start, and timer goes. Hit Stop and it keeps a log.
Thanks

- use it all the time. It's great. I use it to generate my invoices too. And plugs in with BaseCamp which is mighty handy..ShaneHolley

On The Job is very good at what it does, which is what you're looking for.

Slightly off the point probably but track application usage with:

I use Khronos, which is small and does the trick, and it's free.
It's lost to the internets now, because the developer stopped working on it and it's no longer available. But here's a link if you want it.

I am still looking for the perfect time tracking app myself. My two experiments thus far:
- time-tracker (as mentioned above, http://code.google.com/p/time-tr…). Easy to use, but no features to speak of. Especially no way to export data which makes it useless for me.
- http://www.getharvest.com/ (also mentioned above): I like the functionality, but is it just me, or the huge jump between $9 to $24/month seems a bit much, just to have multiple users?

Re on the job
When I place play the play button disappears?
Is that how it works?

you should try timecamp https://www.timecamp.com - you can use it on your Mac and it has keywords detection feature so really a time saver ;)

I started using Toggl myself, both at work and at home for freelance, and I'm super stoked with the results. It's pretty easy to log time for project and edit entries very fast. You can create Projects linked to Clients, and each time entry is a Task. There are no limitations to this, and that flexibility is helpful.
For their free offering you can use three integrated platforms which stay linked in real-time. I can start recording time in the web interface in one place, edit/start/stop on my mobile phone while I'm out, and continue on the desktop app when I'm sitting at my machine. It's all seamless.
Best of all, it generates detailed reports. So far, so good. I recommend this to anyone who needs to keep good track of time.
- Thanks for your feedback, based on your testimonial, I will try it myself.utopian
