Augh, crap.
This s why I don't do web design any more - my lackadaisical skillset is so completely overwhelmed by sites like yours. Very good job, coldy.
Some quibbles (just to make me feel better)..
- Your header animation is a bit glitchy - it stop/starts, seemingly of its own accord?
- I agree with creative - I don't like, or see the point of, those white Serif background texts
- does it really need to be in Flash? (of course it does, but I'm getting low on ammo now)I hate you so much. Good luck!

i don't like to use flash much.. but this case was overwhelming, in a positive sense. i love the fact that i can use my scrollwheel here, and so smooth, even on my crappy slow processor!
well done.

I totally agree with creative...large white type is not adding anything special to the layout. I'm not loving the flying plug, sorry. You might want to add another color (not white) to add some interest. Fantastic flash skills!

the header animation is actually responsive to your mouse position, but I dont think this is clear enough at the moment so may end up losing it. Or put it on a slider like this: www.adobecards.com
I kinda have the background white text in there as another layer of interest as things just felt too plain without. I thought the horizontal stress on both the typefaces matching up was enough to let them work together alse.

i like the scroll bar where it's supposed to be. normally i HATE flash scroll bars, but this works and is wher eI expect it to be. the ease-ing takes a bit getting used to.

thats really sweet..
especially because it's pulling the data from a wp blog.. wow.. good job
- mimeartist0
really nice, but ditch, the forwards and backwards anim on the flash intro, looks like decoration which doesn't need to be there
- coldy0
yea I just put that in and wasnt sold on it, was trying to let the user know that the anim had a timeline responsive to the mouse.... gone.
- dtan0
wow. nicely done. but i agree with scrolling. I think it's a little too sensitive.
- coldy0
Ive toned down the scrollbar easing, its too easy to get over the top with that sometimes isnt it....
- coldy0
too sensitive?
Wouldnt it only be as sensitive as your own keyboard/mouse settings? Maybe Im thinking of something different

Very Nice Coldy, will this be available as Wordpress template? or is it for your own personal use? Thanks...

cool! looks good

first of all - very well done for creating a nice flash WP site !
the design of the content displayed in the blog is nice.
the only parts i dont like are the animated typography at the top - its a nice idea but the typography isnt "tight" enough.
also the main top level buttons are a bit poor in terms of typography too, the white animated/rollover states is a bit "lacking".Get some good classic typography books and look at the layouts/design. i like what youve done - its a lot like a "printed page" kind of layout.
With really tight typography your site could be amazing!!!!On another note, i like the colours youve used, have you thought of using slightly distressed fonts like letterpress fonts for the top animation and section titles etc?
i think this could look really awesome done like that but with crisp body text and the whole background being a slight paper-texture.
i'd sex a website that looked like that.lol

well my 2cents: If its a blog why not keep it in the old fashion xhtml/css? Or, at least, make the text selectable. thats the all point about internet, sharing...nice job thought!!

Nice!

thanks again guys, great feedback,
utopian - as far as a template, I may well release a very basic fla which uses Tim Wilsons pressconnect to receive XML from the database, from there its all dealing with XML which there is a vast amount of information out there about so thats probably as far as Id take it. If you mean a Template that you load into wordpress like you do with other WP css templates, thats a defitnite no, I wouldnt know where to start.
23kon - These are a few things Ive been thinking about, the intro animation is almost certainly going to change. And yes I kinda like the printed page/magazine style as well. As far as typefaces go, I think the cleanliness of the layout lends itself to clean sharp fonts, I dont know if distressed is the way to go. I think using distressed style (in a PF) can kinda bottleneck you, Id rather show good fundamental design skills in a portfolio site and let the work inside illustrate niche skills like distressed work. my opinion anyway.
Elfangio - my reasoning was initially to find a project to start learning Actionscipt 3 and OOP (as I was still coding AS2 all on the first frame). Then it was to see If I could replicate all of the functionality that a default WP installation has in flash, which Ive pretty much achieved, including page tracking, deeplinking, forward/back buttons.
The next step for me would be to build a more experimental visualisation of posts/comments/categories since yes at the moment, it kinda looks like it could have been done in html/css.
That and Im a flash designer, I hate cross browser compatibility, and thinking about how long its taken me I think its actually been quicker doing it in flash.- coldy, you should create a small business for flash blog templates, I have not seen any.utopian

coldy,
i didnt mean to use distressed fonts throughout, just for the main flash anim and maybe for navigation words. having all body copy in a crisp font is good :)and yeah the background would be good rather than being a flat cream/brown, get a good scan or photo of slightly grubby and textured creamish paper

this guy has a major problem with flash, he decided to take it out on me:

Good Jesus his site (the html dude) is pig ugly. Give me slower and sexy any day. And in fact when I say slower I mean literally by a half second. Nice job on the blog site. I was getting tired of all those generic sites that look the same.
