I'm relocating to London to work from Sydney, australia. Am looking for interactive agency work. Any good website I can browse job posting? Krop has very little london job posting....
Besides work, anyone has any advice on contracting work in London, how to set up company or get into umbrella agency or something??
Accommodation: Anything I should know or aware of? any good place to look for accommodation too? (websites etc...)
Thanks heaps :)

I just moved from there to Melbourne.
London is really fast, you can have a job in 3 days and start the day after an interview, have a good portfolio and be prepared to travel anywhere up to an hour and a half each way per day.

Don't live in Acton.
Good luck.
- creativepool is good. i get like 5-6 listing everyday from them.akrokdesign

LOL I know, my neighbor is from London and told me not to move there hahahaha it's ok, just going for 1-2 years so I can get more experience in a different country, different part of the world, and do lots of travelling in Europe :) Any ideas on places to stay? everything seems so expensive, it's crazy... do you know what's the going rate for contract work or permanent there?
- Bollocks. Sure London can be a bit much at times ...but soak up all the art, culture, music etc. Don't get it in Ozbabaganush

- they didn't even stamp her passport.akrokdesign
- she even traveled inside EU after that. no problem. so basiclly she could stayed forever..if she wanted. lol.akrokdesign

You can rake a day rate for freelance up to 200 quid per day, depending on portfolio and experience.
http://www.accommodationlondon.n…
http://www.niceroom.co.uk/It's very expensive to live.
- you really mean "rake" or was that a labour pun?Corvo
- oops, nevermind, i didn't see "rate". sorry.Corvo
- you can get more than that if you're goodbabaganush
- I "rake" more than that, but then, I'm rakishmax_prophet
- £250 - £350 a dayLeigh
- I would say £200 is lowmigy
- hiiee0
ukit: serious? Americans are banned? Well it's pretty hard to go and work in the states too... but there are so much work in NYC! unbelievable! I'm going to the states next... would be a challenge....
meffid:
niceroom looks better than the stuff I have seen... I heard good and bad things about East London... like Hackney, what's the deal over in East London anyways?- Americans aren't banned but you have to prove you can do work a Brit or EU resident can't do.olli101
- we're not officially banned...yet:D but it's virtually impossible to move there.ukit
- how about if an america freelance in the u.k. do they really care then? or check work status.akrokdesign
- i think it's officially against the law to do that...surprisingly.ukit
- i know that.akrokdesign

I lived in Canada Water, commute was a bitch but it was awesome, place overlooking water and didn't feel like london.
Isle of Dogs and other places and dodgy.
When they say east is unsafe, they mean places Bekton, daily chalk outline at the DLR stop I used to live next to when I first got there.
Everyone wants to be an east london geeza, you'll love it.
- Used to live in Canada Water (Brunswick Quay). Love that place =Pwckd

i had looked before, as an designer london seamed like a good thing. lol. if you going to live alone. count at least 225 pounds per week for just rent.
i'm still in l.a. :-) its cheap here, compare to london.

I'm going to rock LA and teach everyone there how to drink next year. I'm also going to fuck Tara Reid, let's see who moves first.
- hah. CHEERS!akrokdesign
- LOL good luck with Tara. Yeah LA sounds like a good place might try that after london :) Just worry about earthquakes!hiiee
- Tera Reid is actually a man, surprisingly enough so is Andy Dick.rocknonstop

i have heard people that you can live on 32k pounds / year. salary wise. i do think you have to make more closer to 40k pounds. which its hard to get.
- as designer. if you HEAD OF STUDIO OR CD. Then you can make 40.akrokdesign
- I was on 32k as a Senior Digital Designer. I also spent a year at uk.real.com on 25k which had me starving most days.meffid
- so on 32k, you have money over?akrokdesign
- O_Ohiiee
- BULL FUCKING SHIT. You can live in London on 25k, you just have to watch what you spend & live somewhere cheap. It can be done.

If you think you can work and live in London and save for week trips to France and Spain every 6 weeks you're so mistaken. It's possible if you eat 2 minute noodles for dinner and can handle being paid monthly. I developed a mean coke habit there instead and drank every day of the week. I also made it to Sweden, once for a weekend. Took me 6 months to save for it and it was a fucking average weekend.
- where in sweden? i'm from stockholm. :-)akrokdesign
- norrkopping (spelling*) and stockholm. stockholm is the bees knees. I got free drink for being a kiwi.meffid

With all this talk of recession, London is bursting with jobs right now. Here's a bunch of links that should help you on your way:
http://www.chinwag.com/
http://jobs.brandrepublic.com/
http://www.nma.co.uk/Jobs/Home.a…
http://jobs.guardian.co.uk/Also, pretty much every decent job or agency has been locked down by an employment agency over here. There are a LOT of dodgy ones but here are some really good ones:
http://www.gabrieleskelton.co.uk…
http://www.majorplayers.co.uk/
http://www.datascope.co.uk/index…London is really, really, really expensive - so be prepared! Otherwise, you'll love it. You'll be in good company as there are loads of other Aussies here. Don't be surprised if you go to the Walkabout or another bar and run into people you knew from High School - it happens all the time. :-)
- i heard most of the swedes lives around piccalilli circle. well, plenty.akrokdesign
- great info thereakrokdesign

Gabriele Skelton is highly recommended. Elite bunch of pricks but got me the best jobs freelancing.
I had to design a colour palette and posters from a movie script to pitch to Paramount. 250 quid a day. Was amazing.
- I've worke quite a bit with Gab Skelton - if you need a contact there, email me.olli101
- meffid0
Recruiters trawl that site daily.
- yeah, that one spam me all the time. lol. (i'm still signed up)akrokdesign
