Just finished the first draft of my first showreel.
Here 'tis:
Any thoughts?

My thoughts are that you have a talented 3 dimensional capability but the graphic design wasn't that strong. That and the music soundtrack was rather a turn off. I particularily liked the simplicity of the brochure flipping open and closing. and I felt that the space ship was really lacking polish in comparison. Theirs elements that really could be cut out. but overall it looks like its getting there it needs work though.

like the rhythm, the tune..you have nice animation skils Ephix.=)
(didn't like the spaceship work, looks a little raw...)
keep the god work...
Cheers!

hehe, thanks for the feedback. you both couldn't have been any more different than each other in opinion =)

overall very nice, some parts of the reel do not appear or feel to be seemlessly designed, a little disjointed, nice first draft

Some nice elements in there. Lose the spaceship though, or at least only have it in once. If there's anything to put off prospective employers it's a space scene, trust me.

made a few changes to it.

Why do showreels always have to look the same?
- Bleip0
Can't remember what the other one was like haha.
I still think you should cut a lot of the spaceship scenes out - if you're using it as filler then I'd suggest showing more / longer edits of your compositing work (the lawnmower and Mickey Mouse bits). Using Shine on a logo is easy, compositing sells your skills more.
All the best though!

I guess it's a different market in HK. One of the big things we are pushing is to get high paying clients through an IPO/Venture capital partner of ours. They eat up stuff with big names on it and that kind of thing. Trying to get a bit of both in there.
