I can't write a good cover letter. Really, everything I write sucks so much ass I think I should just sell crocheted USB cozys on ebay instead of applying for real jobs.
Who fuckin cares??
How do you spell 'crochet' anyway?
- MrDinky0
i care.
- dog_opus0
You spelled it right! Just take a break, man, and then go back to it. You'll get it done in the end.
- b_electro0
To Whom it may Concern,
I have 7 years agency/crochet experience and a BFA, and MrDinky cares.
Sincerely,
Your mum
- MrDinky0
yah thats gonna go long
- MrDinky0
really depends on where the cover letter is going to. most of the design positions dont need one but unless you go in to architecture or more formal setting.

Just be brief and to the point: how you heard about the job, your experience/education (qualifications), your enthusiasm about getting this job, and any special qualifications you may have. The cover letter shouldn't be too long. It's just to convince them to actually read the resume.
- And of course double-check for spelling, grammar, etc.! Have someone else read it maybe.dog_opus

Yeah I used to have the same attitude, never included a cover letter, just relied on my portfolio, resume and dashing good looks. But now I feel like it's just good form to include a well-crafted letter personalized to the position/agency you're applying for. Can't hurt anyway- unless it's a crap letter!

cover letters = 3 small paragraphs, written by hand if handwriting is good. Signed.
1st paragraph: You introduce yourself and your skills.
2nd paragraph: You state what sort of knowledge you can give the firm, and why the firm is important to you.
3rd paragraph: You say you would like to discuss further details in an interview.you attach your updated CV.
Good luck.

If you really can't come up with something and you need a last minute quick fix, just use the following:
Come inside take off your coat I'll make you feel at home
Now let's pour a glass of wine cuz now we're all alone
I've been waiting all night so just let me hold you close to me
Cuz I've been dying for you girl to make love to meGirl you make me feel real good
We can do it 'til we both wake up
Girl you know I'm hooked on you
And this is what I'll doI wanna sex you
All night
You make me feel good
I wanna rub you down
I wanna sex you upLet me take off all your clothes
Disconnect the phone so nobody knows
Let me light a candle
So we can make it better
Makin love until we drownGirl you know it feels real good
We can do it til we both wake up
Girl you know I'm hooked on you
And this is what I'll doI wanna sex you up
Makin' love until we drown
I wanna sex you upAll I wanna do is
I wanna sex you up
All night
Girl you make me feel good
I wanna rub you down
I wanna sex you upMake sweet lovin all night long
I wanna sex you up
Feels so right it can't be wrong
Don't be shy girl rescue me
I wanna sex you up
Open up your heart and I'll set you free
Ooh I wanna touch you in all the right places
I wanna make love to you
All night, all night yeahMake sweet lovin all night long
I wanna sex you up
Feels so right it can't be wrong

cover letters, resumes, blah blah. a good portfolio speaks volumes. i've never written a resume or cover letter.
- Witt0
Forget the post above (sorry acescence). Portfolios may speak volumes, but there's a lot of good portfolios out there and that doesn't make distinction any more (if it ever did). Write a good cover-letter: It's your first impression on a contractor, and how you express yourself may be a plus to the firm. Trust me - it's my job.

Witt, I like your comment about "written by hand if handwriting is good." Very classy and old school.:)
- acescence0
i guess i wouldn't hire someone based on a few paragraphs. too many bullshitters out there. show me the goods!
- sorry bro, didn't intended to lessen yr opinion, but having a good portf AND a good cover-letter cannot be bad.Witt
- intended = intend.Witt
- You're not selling a portfolio (firms have lots of those). You're selling your capacity to wade through biz as well.Witt
- Including the ability to communicate fluently and easily.dog_opus

I think a resume is important, and the portfolio too, but you can easily accomplish the same goals of a cover letter, by just making your email introduction specific to the job, your skills, and basic experience rather than designing something that needs to be updated in InDesign or Illustrator every time, 3 paragraphs = perfect email size. Maybe I assume too much, but most jobs i am interested in start with an email to ;D
