Banksy is making noise in NYC again, this time with the help of professional sign painters and legally rented walls.

the real question: will Banksy get crossed out by nasty NY taggers everywhere? Don't they know better?? ;-)

I think it's worth considering the medium here. In places like New York (and I imagine most large cities), street art (subversive, youth culture or whatever else you care to call it) has been completely usurped by advertisers. The walls in these photographs are usually painted up with faux-street marketing messages for adidas, H&M or DKNY.
That banksy would take the same, junior high, "fuck the man," message and recreate it on a MASSIVE scale (there's another going up on W Houston as we speak) utilizing the existing faux-street marketing infrastructure says something about the state of our culture today.
I think, on that level, it's incredibly successful. I hope we see the city covered in these things.
- banksy cant say "fuck the man" now cos he IS the man (hes got megabucks these days, no?)23kon

well just across the street from the last image there is a really nice mural of the gta4 cover. advertising or not i prefer good looking murals like that over any billboard. the dkny mural further east on canalstreet is sweet as well

Haha, you guys wouldn't be so smug if you owned one of the first POW Banksy prints from 4 or 5 years ago... they were knocking out signed prints for £150, they quite often go on eBay now for £3/4k+. Not a bad return.

Here's one... currently on £5000.
