Alright so don't get me wrong. But it just seems as though every company wants to be "interactive" -- yet I don't see that much interactive work anymore. People are getting away from flash for it's obvious quirks that no one wants to fix. *cough* Back button support, iPhone support, CMS implementation, non-modular layouts, hard to grow or expand on *cough*
So... Why is it that every company wants to showcase their interactive work? If their fighting for interactive work, they will have 3000 agencies fighting over BMW (the one client who still uses flash)

what are you talking about man?
you don't see flash anymore? You probably have a very slow modem connection and sites won't load on your computer...
- acescence0
did you mean to post this in 2001?
- shut up with this "so last year" bullshitthelukeandrews
- 2001 was 8 years ago, when this argument was quite popular. now shut your ignorant hole.acescence

@Meeklo -- umm, what? I think your only seeing flash if thats what you WANT to see.
@acescence -- Haha good one. But seriously, flash should have been dead in 2001.. I can't believe I still see it in so many corpo portfolios..
- harlequino0
Yeah what are you talking about? Every rfp that comes across our desk has a huge Flash component to it.
- thepda0
@harlequino -- Which is exactly why I said, why is it so big in this community? It isn't big anywhere else.. Just to let you know..
And by now ALL of you should know that large companies are at least 5 years behind on all technology, if you don't know that... your dumb.
- you can't even use the correct for of you're. you've done it at least 5 times in this thread already...idiotmonospaced
- 'Your dumb'... it that like 'your retarded'?5timuli
- harlequino0
What community? I work in the ad world for consumer brands, and 80% of our output is either completely in Flash or contains some Flash component.
- acescence0
i think the issue for many is that flash has gone beyond the reach of the average designer, it's more for the developers. as for your arguments there, swfaddress enabled back button use a long time ago. i've personally implemented a number of CMS backends for flash, AS3 has made it cake to build large modular systems. well, you got me on the iphone thing though.

My website is entirely done in Flash.
Aye mon then.

Yes, I am not stupid. Also, Nike is a big one too.
But just wait until they want to SELL something, I think their minds may change. Uniqlo does it too, but spending 300k on a flash people who make a CMS is just retarded.
- I never meant to said you were stupid my friend. I was just trying to helpMeeklo
- thepda0
But the main thing I asked which no one is really answering is.. Why is it big in this community? I don't know of any reason FOR flash that other things cannot do, and I know of plenty of reasons why flash is BAD.
I think harlequino said it right, "flash component" -- not an entire Web site IN flash.
- thepda0
Yet again Meeklo, your posting a couple of Web sites from some of the biggest companies in the world.. Which brings me back to point #1 -- 3000 agencies fighting for a couple of clients.. dumb.
- harlequino0
"But just wait until they want to SELL something, I think their minds may change. "
Don't mean to bust your chops dude, but what exactly do you do? I can tell you I've sat and gone through metrics with research showing campaigns being more successful launched in Flash than in another delvery format. It all depends on the demographic and target audience.
Flash is a delivery tool for content. That's it. When selling content or product, it's all about developing your strategy based on target audience. No brand or campaign strategists actually sit around and say "oh we should get away from this flash crap, it's so 2001." It comes from the target, and then how everyone wants to execute the creative.

No, I'm just posting "Not BMW Websites", remember?......................
So... Why is it that every company wants to showcase their interactive work? If their fighting for interactive work, they will have 3000 agencies fighting over BMW (the one client who still uses flash)

so you lost a bid to a client that wanted flash even though you tried to convince them otherwise, and now your on here trying to vent and rally support.
now you're getting more frustrated because you're not getting the responses you envisioned after posting so many *cough* facts
that about sum it up?
- oh, wait... did flash kill your parents?7point34
- you know Flash totally killed his parents, harlequino
- so sad. whatta waste7point34

Flash is not a deliver tool for content. If it is not supported on multiple formats, like on Mobile, it's not appealing to all demographics. My 60 year old Grandma can't use her back button because Flash won't allow it... Is it appealing to her knowledge? Is that user experience? Is that appealing to all demographics?
I am a designer and developer, but don't appeal to the whole "interactive" work -- to me it seems more like graphic designers who want to get on the Web (which isn't the case, just always feels that way).
