Seems to be what alot of "designers are saying". I have come across a bunch of websites who offer to code your psds, yet their site sucks in IE7. (CSS Ninja)
Maybe its me...but I honestly dont think you can be a serious web designer if you only code for Safari, chrome and firefox.
Anyhow thats just an observation...

The standard at my work is..."make it work in IE first"
- that's what I do too, then it works in all other browsersMilan
- I find the tools for web dev in FF better so I tend to start with that, but yeah IE is top priority *sigh*zarkonite
- yeah. If you go the other way...get ready to be pissed :)designbot
- hey zark have you used IE developer toolbar? it's actually pretty sweet.designbot
- yeah I dig the toolbar, I think it's really force of habit with firebug that keeps me going...zarkonite
- oh yeah, once you get used to one tool it's hard to change it up.designbot
- Your doing it wrong, make it work in Safari/FF then do an IE versionfiesta
- Yeah I dont really know a lot of pro dev's that program for some lesser used browser first.CygnusZero4

IE7 is a piece of shit... it's marketshare makes it more important than all other browsers tho so it all depends on your target audience.
Overall to me it's basically, IE vs The Rest.

I don't see the problem...it should be easy to code for all of them if you know HTML and CSS at a basic level.
Yes, IE has some annoying issues, but solve them once and you're good usually.
Of course, with the new versions of HTML and CSS on the way, it could get much worse if browsers all have differing implentations of some of the new features.

Must code on IE first over here at work.
With personal web sites though, I aim for every major browser.

you know, this forum is pretty liberal. you can say Fuck in the title...really!

I agree you have to code at least for : ff, ie , safari

I code for IE 6+7, FF, Safari, Chrome and even Opera. IE7 ain't so bad... IE 6 is a turd. I just write separate ie style sheets and get things working at a bare minimum level (no fanciness) with IE 6. If the losers still using it want the sweet effects other people see, they should upgrade their fooking browser.

QBN doesnt work right on IE8.
i cant click through the notes on the right...
thats pretty much shit.

And I agree with you guys, IE sucks a big time, but it's still a major browser, and therefore it should not be ignored.
We are testing our pages in every browser as we code (IE6, IE7, IE8, FF, Safari, Opera and Chrome), because it's easier to solve problems (bugs) as they appear.
Oh, and with the little effort IE can work (yes, even IE6) without the separate sheets.

separate stylesheets sucks, no need of that.

Internet sucks.

Firefox blows. Every time I launch it tries to install things I dont want. I dont use it anymore outside of just testing. Worst browser aside from Safari.

Use a resets script. Seriously. It will make your life so much easier. I think of a resets script as something which levels the ground before you start building. It makes sure that a lot of the stupid little inconsistencies between browsers are smoothed over. You'll still have problems to fix, but they'll be greatly reduced.
Once you have your site working on the well behaved browsers (firefox / safari / opera), and once it validates (http://validator.w3.org/), start working on IE6/7/8. Use conditional comments to target your IE specific stylesheets to those browsers only.
I've found by working that way, IE6 isn't as much of a problem as I used to find it.
And also, it's worth remembering -> http://dowebsitesneedtolookexact…
