You need to be well prepared to do hikes like Black Tusk and Joffre....
Water pumps, light gear, good shoes and there are bears around.
Not trying to scare you - just don't want to send someone out there who isn't ready for it.

Thanks for the infos.
Skima, totally understand and it's wise of you to give a warning. I'm not the kind to run out into the wilderness unprepared and I grew up in "bear country". Unfortunately I don't think we'll even have enough time to get into anything epic like these hikes.

the wildlife will get you and give you in sacrifice to Mother Nature. They have the right to do so.
Just bring a knife.

Waterfront, downtown Portland. Hit up Saturday Market. Fun stuff.

just did a road trip up the west coast with my brother and some friends. crater lake was the highlight. totally amazing. the lodges and cabins were all booked while we were there. be prepared for sparrow-sized mosquitos.

Also, for surfing, Short Sands beach is a popular surf beach. I wrote about it in a note above. Camping there too, near the ocean. It's between Cannon Beach and Manzanita on the northern Oregon coast.
