Which would you get?
I wanna mainly use it for shooting video. and from time to time take nice still shots.
At first, I wanted to get the 5d, cus a lot of filmmakers are starting to use it. but now im starting to go for the 7d, since its cheaper, a newer model, and has more options on it.
Or should I wait til the next wave of Canons are released?
Thanks!

eventually, it will come down to this here....
5D = Full frame sensor
- bigtrick0
T2i = half the price of the 7D, same sensor, same video capability.
- epic_rim0
5dII = better low light capability, better...mostly everything.
are you serious about this? If you are, get the 5d. If this is a hobby and you're budget is tighter, get the 7d.
as OSFA said, it really comes down to that sensor size.
- 7D = better AF, especially in low-light or moving subjects... 5D = amazing low-light ISOvaxorcist

yes - there is no point in spending $1700 for a 7D when you can get a 5Dmkii for $2500. conversely, there is no point in getting a 7D when you can get a T2i for $900. either way, the 7D loses.
- totally... and the 60D may be interesting, as it has a flip viewfinder and may AF in videovaxorcist

i have this shit problem on my 5dII, the battery is going to 0 while the camera is closed. anyone something similar?
else, great camera in shooting static or video. haven't experienced with 7d, but i just compare with my old 5d

What would you need fullframe for in video?

if 5d is full frame sensor ... what does 7d have?
what are the purpose of having a full frame sensor? better lighting?

i got the 7D right after it was released. put the extra money towards a lens and the z-finder. i'd rather have the 5D, but i couldn't live without the z-finder. when the 5D is updated, i'll upgrade.

the biggest advantage for fullframe vs cropframe, imagewise, is shallower DOF, and hence, better subject-background isolation and smoother bokeh.
- ahh .. that is what i was really concerned about too ... the whole DOF advantagesdatnatikid
- if you don't have full-frame, you're only using part of the lens, waste of good glass!acescence
- but also remember that for some uses, crop frame actually is more forgiving of sloppy focusvaxorcist

5d only shoots in 24p
while 7d can do multiple rates

In a way all people posting above are all right but in reality they are also all wrong as everyone is picking on one feature saying "And this is why this camera is better..." While in actuality only a camera that's most rounded (there is no camera that's all pluses or minuses) is best to you. You have to look at all the pluses and minuses and see which minuses you can live with and then based on that make your decision.

The 7D 720P 60FPS is nice. Let's you overcrank for slow motion, I don't think the 5D can do this. The T2i is nice (we use it as a second camera with the 7D) but limited controls.

BUY A LEICA M9

get extra stuff with the extra cash, and go 7d. but everything less than that is not pro.
fullframe is great for fashion photography, not really a difference in video.- good point

If you're purchasing mostly for video, I'm not sure that the 7D warrants the 2x price tag over the t2i. There's some nice pro still features, an alloy body, and intermediate ISO settings, buuuut that's about it. Same sensor, same video capture capabilities. I say, either drop the cash for the 5D, or just go with the t2i.
The advantages of the full frame sensor are, as noted before, a shallower DoF (but not a ton), cleaner low-light, and you don't have the 1.6x crop factor. That's a pretty big deal, as with the 7D and t2i, your lenses are not as wide as they would be with the 5D. A 20mm, for instance, essentially becomes a 31mm on the smaller sensor.
So, it all really depends on your budget and what you really plan on doing. If you have the cash to drop, just get the 5DmkII, some nice lenses, and a redrock setup, and call it a day. But, the t2i really, really is an excellent camera, and definitely worth considering if you are strapped for budget, and will free up some cash that you can immediately dump into your soon-to-have endless void of desire for new camera gear.
- without cinie lenses you will have to pull focus manually and as 5d doesn't output HD signal during recording you are fucked.pr2
- plus lack of intermediate ISO settings on t2i is a HUGE deal.pr2
- 5d doesn't output HD during recording? That wasn't addressed in the firmware update? That's unfortunate to hear.DoTheMacarena

- 5D has oddball video output while shooting... we now use a Marshall Monitor, focus outlines help alot!vaxorcist

also note that when using a zoom lens for video, you need a constant aperture lens or you'll see it jump between f-stops.
