Looking for a way to have -
* 1 computer setup as a host/localhost.
* other computers publish to this for testing (web development)So rather then having a localhost on the one machine, actually be 'uploading' to a separate computer. Sorry if this is vague... maybe out of my depth and should look into a os x server type setup here...

turn file and websharing on on the host machine.
connect from your client with http://yourhostmachineIP/~user/ ?

works the same way, you just access it via the computer's IP address on your local network instead of localhost. I would use mamp though, instead of the default os x apache install, which is a bit non-standard compared to most setups you'll encounter. some modules are missing and the paths are a bit weird.

Be aware that, depending on how your network is configured, IP addresses might change over time. Best if your local router has a fixed IP for the 'server' machine.

also if you have a machine which will act solely as a server i'd recommend putting Linux on it (probably ubuntu) if you are hosting your sites on Linux you then have the best testbed.
