I just ordered the full documentary, I could not find the whole doc anywhere on the Interwebs.

I finally got around to watching the documentary this evening, she was very creative...but extremely dark and damaged as human. A really good doc.
- check out the BBC one aswell, look for a torrent ;)Weyland

Chicagoan John Maloof has received an Oscar nomination for a documentary feature about extraordinary street photographer Vivian Maier, who for much of her life was a nanny in the northern suburbs.

some really great photos! and that's an incredible story. unfortunate though about the timing of her death.
- Hombre_Lobo0
Yeh pizzafire, such a shame she won't see how great she was.
Be nice if they got to moma or the Tate, they seem good enough, I wish I could nail composition like she can!

"a few hundred B&W rolls to develop. Not to mention about 600 undeveloped color rolls."
good lord, it's like a time capsule
- it would be so much fun to develop that film. if I lived in Chicago I would offer my helpMr_Fantastic
- I know! would be an awesome little window to the past.Hombre_Lobo

amazing photos --- and love the square mf format she shot on.
this should be EC'd.
shame the blog/website is an ugly template - work deserves supremo design.

Wonderful work...

bought the DVD from Amazon and watched it last night. Loved it. The lady was definitely whacky.
Did anyone get the feeling that the dark secret her family kept was that maybe their father was some sort of monster or war criminal?
- hm hadn't thought of that, but that's an interesting theory.colin_s

Never heard of her. Thanks for sharing.

in the video he mentions how the photos could be worth a lot, but its seems somewhat wrong for him to make money from someone elses hard work.
Compensation for his work and costs yeh, but surely if the photos made lots of money it should go to her family.
Even better if they knew of a charity or interest of Vivian Maier's which the profits could be donated to.
- set up a foundation - all money goes to that - family can oversee it and commitee can distribute moneys made to upcoming photogs / arts charities - noofadein11
- photogs / arts charities. Noone should get rich from her work apart from her - will be disgraceful if that happensfadein11

- It seems wrong, but museums and galleries make money off people's work. Why shouldn't he?freedom
- museums buy or borrow work usually with the aim of making the work available to the public. And most museums are non-profit organisations. Are you referring to the commercial gallery system? Not the same.fadein11

She probably didn't even know she was good at it. She just kept doing it. With out any acknowledgment from anybody.

I spent 3 hours last night viewing her work, amazing.

Anyone have a link to this film? iTunes only?

Saw it in the theater. Very good documentary. Creepy woman though.

The film reveals that she very much did know she was a good photographer. She worked very close with printers on achieving exactly the look, and print that she envisioned. She also wrote a letter to a print shop in France stating that she wanted to get in to business together by selling her prints.

Phenomenal work, over 100,000 negatives...John Maloof will be a multi-millionaire sooner rather than later.
