Thinking about heading with my wife and kids on a Pacific Northwest vacation this fall, mainly staying in Portland. Can anyone suggest some good hotels that are right downtown?

seems kid-friendly i guess. the crowd to be 25-35+ somethings. didn't notice a lot of families per se, but that doesn't mean much.
- We're in the mid-30's range, just with 2 ankle biters that tag along.CuriousGeorge

I've never stayed at this one (since I live here) but stayed in the Seattle one once. If your going to stay awhile you might want to get a suite with your own bathroom.- yeah, clyde common is great! actually so is kenny and zukes...but i def. recommend clyde. escape from the kids if you can hahalvl_13

McMenamins, a local brewer famous for "beer campuses" (see Kennedy School, Edgfield) and pubs around town just opened a hotel near the Ace that used to be a huge gay bathhouse.
It has more of a hippy/granola/beer snob feel but I've always had fun at their establishments. Plus you get discounts at the Crystal Ballroom if there is any good shows playing.

Go up top have a drink. Pretty trendy, but if you go early you can enjoy the quiet. Also the Urban Farmer is cool place to unwind for a moment.

I thought "ankle biters" were dogs not kids... If you stay down my the Ace/Crystal or anywhere near downtown you could take your kids to Powells book store, The Zoo/rose garden/Japanese Gardens is just up the hill and you can take the Max train there.
Also around the corner is one of the best chocolate places in town

Get a hot chocolate, it's like drinking a melted hershey bar in a cup.
