Drinking alone

Just had a discussion with a friend of mine. She thinks it's strange when people drink when they're by themselves. I responded by saying, for me it's not about getting drunk, but relaxing after a hard days/weeks work, etc.
Also, isn't drinking ONLY when in the company of others even stranger?
Thoughts?

I do it a lot, drink with yourself or people that you don't know to get that high or buzz or relaxing feeling, no biggie dude. At the end of the day, it's about self-control, whatever. You could just as easily kill yourself from a bridge. AA is a money-making, church-pushing racket, IMO.
- always so dramaticmonospaced
- < this. especially AA and hospitals74LEO
- I was forced into an AA class for a DWI, I felt sorry for the people there. Some brainwashing going on, yo.popfodders
- Agree. I'd like to see them try a 12-step program with me. I'd argue their shit into the middle of next week.mikotondria3

AA is money making? It saves lives!
- Religious bullshitanimatedgif
- it might save lives, but I am telling you that 90% of religion. If you want to go to Church fine, but not in AApopfodders
- So, you've been?tesmith
- indeed, for DWI, had to according to law, which brings up politics. Church and State?popfodders
- if you drink n drive you are a pretty scummy person. I presume you are young and so know it all still. that'll change, trus bruv. :P AA is not religious. It is spiritual tho.little_kev

It depends on whether you consider drinking to be social thing. I don't drink at home alone, and it's very rare I'll go to a pub and not drink alcohol. But I'd never go to the pub on my own.
When you drink alone, I would imagine there is a big difference having a drink to chill out and drinking to get drunk.
If you drink to get drunk on your own, there is a problem.
- unless your friends with the drunks that are there and you consider them your bro's. hehepopfodders

Nothing wrong with a beer alone at the end a hard day.

Your friend has an opinion. And opinions are like assholes–Everybody has one.

Drinking alone is fine - I used to have an awkward walking commute of 2 hrs and would stop in a pub and have 1, maybe 2 beers. At home I'll drink 1 maybe 2 beers in the evening, sometimes alone. It's just nice to drink beer or wine or a nice scotch, frees the mind, relaxes the body, allows a short time away from the measured rigor of the body clock and the march of industry and domesticity. To be avoided though, is the onset of drunkenness when alone. When with friends, this bend in the road is passed with glee, alone it finds one desiring company and finding none can easily and unpredictably turn to melancholy.
- yeah, it's when one does 8 to 10 things generally go sour.popfodders

Also, I think the fact you need to ask the question in some vague hope that the replies will somehow settle your already petrified mind says it all.

lf we give up useless craving and learn to live each day at a time (not dwelling in the past or the imagined future) then we can become happy and free. We then have more time and energy to help others. This is Nirvana.
- This is simpleton platitude. The cure for yearning for things is just to not do it ? Oh, I see - it's so simple. We need the past &mikotondria3
- the future to create our present, learn things, plan for success and achievement. This sounds like just taking drugs, sat down.mikotondria3
- Or drinking in a park laughing at people 'all scurrying off to their jobs, like so many robots." Yeh, fucking robots that don't stink ofmikotondria3
