Here's something weird too: I can save Photoshop files to an external drive, but, still, not on my hard drive. Ugh – super-annoying.

I've had that before in OS X. But back a couple levels. Like maybe on Leopard.
My experience is that's usually a problem related to file and disk permissions. Use the Disk Utility to clean it up.

Yeah, I tried that too, thanks. It didn't work. This is just something weird I've never seen until this version of OS X. I couldn't even find anyone talking about it on the Apple support forum. This is a major hassle.

Lion automatically locks files which haven't been used for sometime. It should prompt you to either unlock it, or save as a new file. The fact that it's not letting you by citing access privileges sounds like there's an issue with permissions. Have you tried running repair permissions in Disk Utitlity?

Hi, Nathan. Yes, I repaired my disk permissions and I also deselected the lock option for Time Machine in System Preferences. No luck.

If these files are originating on a server, it could be a problem on the server. We've run into that before.

i_monk: It's also happening to files that originated on my machine. Still can't figure it out.

Right click the file icon and select get info, under sharing and permissions at bottom you should have read and write permission. Is this the case?

also try repairing your permissions in disk utility. i had A LOT of problems with this when i first switched to lion.
- lol You're the third person in this thread to suggest that (I did it, though, to no avail). Thanks!dog_opus
