The mass of men lead lives of quiet desperation. What is called resignation is confirmed desperation.

It was a quick job as a favor and we discussed it while drinking. He agreed to pay when I said was pretty busy and I usually charge a day rate for things. I think he would have been weirded out if there were a contract to sign beforehand or terms. You people were all raised by lawyers or something?
Getting a contract back and forth or asking for money upfront for $100 would be a waste of my time.
- yeah, the contract thing is for bigger projects, but delivering files prior to payment is your best bet.Miguex

I think electronic payment works better for stuff like this. Writing a check and going to the post office to mail if off seems like a lot of work for such a small amount, and he may be just putting it off since he figures it is not worth the trouble.

"never send finals to a client that has not paid for the item"
How does that work? I've never encountered a client who sets deadlines three weeks (a reasonable amount of time for a client to take processing cheques for contractors) before launch.

Hey XXXX,
Just wanted to confirm you received my invoice (*attached). Let me know when you can process.
Cheers

Hi Account handler's name.
Please respond to confirm you have read this email.
Despite repeated requests, this invoice is still outstanding - as far as I can tell, no effort has been made to pay this whatsoever.
I would like contact details for your accounts department so I can contact them directly and request that the invoice, which is now over a month overdue, be paid.
Sincerely,
Me- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Just send it to a payment collection agency. When a person realizes their credit score will be affected they will pay. Collections take a percent usually not much sometimes a lot but the threat usually makes the difference. Give it a try.
Watch them squirm!

So much talk about contracts. When was the last time you went to a hair dresser, or restaurant and was asked to sign a contract for their services? They simply give you a check and you pay. How simple is that? Especially on $100. What many stores around here do, when they catch people running out without paying, is post their face on the door or by the cashier. I would expect others to do the same. Not only for my protection, but the protection of others... because I want to be warned of suspicious people who don't pay their design service fees.

Is this really a company processing checks...or just a guy he met at a party? I think it's perfectly reasonable to ask him to pay when the work is handed over for such a small, informal kind of job.

Send paper. Sometimes that impresses.

So we should pay before we eat at restaurants or before we get haircuts?
