If anyone is working freelance for less than $500 a day, may I suggest you get the fuck out of NYC!
- doesnotexist0
$20-30/hr is SHIT in nyc. i always tell young designers $50 should your minimum hrly rate, but it really depends on how much you think you're worth.
bet you could get around $500/day based on your work

Maybe the reason people are posting low rates is because they're always on here and not at work / in meetings getting shit done.

at least you can find an other job that pays better meanwhile.

$32/35 hr for freelance design (less than 28 hrs a week).
NYC
0 benefits. 1.5hr commute
Would you take it?- Didn't want to create a new thread 4 this.bklyndroobeki
- Only if I have nothing else at the momentpinkfloyd
- 1.5 hour commute is rough, man.e-wo
- Print work... and yeah it's a long commutebklyndroobeki
- If you can do it 3 days/wk, that's not bad. Junior jobs pay $20-$30 and might have no benefits.freedom
- Do something else 2 days a week and you'll make decent money.freedom
- Turned them down. Working in Philly for a month .bklyndroobeki

Talent agencies for design often charge almost double whatever rate they're paying you. So, if you find the clients yourself or work through design agencies directly, you can charge more.

Yeah I'm not using them, I contacted some studio's and got some replies back asking for my rates and availability so I thought I'd brave the dark waters of QBN to get some advice.

nylon said Creative Circle charge $70.
now they takes a bit cut of that.maybe you get upto $40 then.
but, why use them. cut them off is possible. take the whole cake.

Ha what I meant was I got some attention from some celebrities, I'm pretty sure I'm not one!
So the answer to my question is, for me I should probably charge around $40 /hour?
I'm not too sure about IG? Maybe used right tags? I'm not an expert on it but I did notice my followers grew real quick when I first got on it and I was getting lots of comments and stuff. I always promoted it when I did live pieces, events or anything though. I started on twitter round the same time but didn't really happen the same way, I only got like 40 followers?!
- + I got tagged in a couple of posts by someone who had WAY more followers than meshesh

Are you a celebrity in Australia too? How the hell did you accumulate 26,352 followers on IG and only have 68 posts?

As DP (doubt anyone here even knows what that is):
$1500-3500/day- Really? This gives me hope for the future!nb
- the 3.5k/d jobs come like 2x a year though, so most of the time you are around 1.5-2k mark.pr2
- No design job pays $400K unless you're a partner at the biggest firm or something.freedom
- and you're wrong, this is QBN, we all know what DP is:
Double Penetration :)_niko - no DP works more than like 6 days/month. It's not $400k but rather $150k.pr2
- DP = Director of Photography, usually for a TV ad or similar budget item, many meetings!
vaxorcist - in the film biz, there's a LOT of unpaid getting ready time & phone calls, etc before that day rate.vaxorcist
- This guy doesn't do TV commercials though.freedom

No not really, one of the main reasons I moved here is I was lucky enough to get some decent celebrity attention and scored some pretty big opportunities in regards to a fashion venture I'm working on. I have some ongoing design work from clients back in Australia I still work on from here but I want to get some experience and exposure working on some projects here in nyc so that's why I contacted a few design studios here about freelance work.
Ideally I would rather go direct to clients because that's how I was working back in Australia but it seems the way things are done here is reeally different to Australia so I thought working some freelance hours at a few studios would educate me.

Is it mainly agency work you're looking for then?

Don't really see any ILLUSTRATION?
- Good point! I actually never realised that till now. I post more of my illustrations on my Instagram - http://instagram.com… maybe I should drop the illustration out of my bio?shesh

Have you thought about going direct to clients? Then you won't be talking hourly rates, but project costs instead where you can make more money?
