Backers all want a refund:
https://www.kickstarter.com/proj…- wouldn't they get a cut of the two billion?rosem
- 1wud hopeprophetone
- once you fund on KS, there's no obligation to give you anything in return.BusterBoy
- no they wouldn't get a cut, they don't own any part of the company. they just put up dev capital in exchange for a presale and extra stuff.uuuuuu
- ...pre-purchase and extra stuff. I'm pretty sure its not even legal to offer shares in a company through crowd sourcing.uuuuuu

Google would be able to do more with it than anybody. FBs mantra has been "social experiences" for a while now so I guess that's what they are banking on, VR "social experiences".
New tech is all so depressing. Never mind how many people are being brainwashed and commercialized, I am just thinking about how nearsighted everyone will get with these headsets on.

Fug it...If I was 20 years old and someone offered me that kind of money, I'd take it in a heartbeat...then move onto the next thing knowing no matter what happened, I'd be set for life financially.
So what shareholding did this Palmer Luckey guy have left?
- the next thing being a tropical island and titties I hope.zarkonite

Fuck it, I've was a multmultibillionnaire nerd, I'd buy Oculus Rift too.
Ultimately, it's a peripheral based upon a series of hard-to-patent or easily bendable patents. Valve has been careful to keep its [apparently superior to OR] tech open and available to interested parties, so FB's purchase doesn't sound the death knell for the tech we're all so keen on.
The opposite, I'd wager — $2Bn is one hell of a vouch, which should make Google, MS, Apple and all the big tech companies who don't already have it on their radar pinging the fuck out of it.
In ten years time, VR Headsets might be like LCD screens today - basic consumer items made my a whole range of competing manufacturers, chasing higher specs and lower price points.

Facebook acquisitions are similar to alchemy.
They turn something that will eventually be worthless: Facebook shares into something of value.

the thing is, most people contributed to this kickstarter thinking they would get a fully open platform not a facebook one, the guy is happy with his 2 billion (400 million + social blood money) but he's a asshole for dropping the ball so soon..
If I had send some money I would be pissed off right now, because for sure the platform won't be as open as it was advised,

Its a dev kit so you can rock out with the SDK if you'd like. I didn't have enough time in 1 week w the unit in order to really dig deep but I tried a few demos, and I downloaded a go cart sim game to my mac pro turns out it was a game for PCs though.
I also got a chance to try out the samsung version in the office, * shameless plug * http://www.complex.com/pop-cultu…
While I didn't view the porn, I did view trailers in a theatre and visited Mongolia and listened to a girl tell a joke to her family which felt pretty damn real and immersive...
I figured it was mongolia because the inside of the house looked like the result of these house shapes...

- is that one of those cubicals americans work in? thought they were a joke from the matrix.fadein11
- I'd rather have to work in that one than what a cubicle is across the pond: https://www.google.c…ETM
- I was at a company once that moved me (and others) from a windowed office to a cubicle to save costs.ETM
- I thank them because it made me quite a few months later and start my own company.ETM

I see the "Facebook Theater" with everyone in the audience wearing them for a truly immersive experience.
