Google would be able to do more with it than anybody. FBs mantra has been "social experiences" for a while now so I guess that's what they are banking on, VR "social experiences".
New tech is all so depressing. Never mind how many people are being brainwashed and commercialized, I am just thinking about how nearsighted everyone will get with these headsets on.

the thing is, most people contributed to this kickstarter thinking they would get a fully open platform not a facebook one, the guy is happy with his 2 billion (400 million + social blood money) but he's a asshole for dropping the ball so soon..
If I had send some money I would be pissed off right now, because for sure the platform won't be as open as it was advised,

Its a dev kit so you can rock out with the SDK if you'd like. I didn't have enough time in 1 week w the unit in order to really dig deep but I tried a few demos, and I downloaded a go cart sim game to my mac pro turns out it was a game for PCs though.
I also got a chance to try out the samsung version in the office, * shameless plug * http://www.complex.com/pop-cultu…
While I didn't view the porn, I did view trailers in a theatre and visited Mongolia and listened to a girl tell a joke to her family which felt pretty damn real and immersive...
I figured it was mongolia because the inside of the house looked like the result of these house shapes...

"For the record, I am coding right now, just like I was last week.I expect the FB deal will avoid several embarrassing scaling crisis for VR."
"I have a deep respect for the technical scale that FB operates at. The cyberspace we want for VR will be at this scale."
John Carmack, CTO of Oculus VR.
