My dreamhost website hosting is set to renew soon for $119 for a year, which seems like a lot?
I know it's only $10 a month, but are there any other options I should consider?
A lot of hosting companies offer introductory discounts, but I don't really want to be switching every year.
Should I just stay?

WebFaction is my favorite, not as cheap as many, but really really nice compared to many previous hosts over the years.... and they allow many websites / apps on one account....

(yes, my shameless affiliate link I admit it)

not sure what your needs are but I've been using this for over a decade

I just need basic hosting for my site. I use Google apps for my email, so I don't think switching hosts would mess that up.
Reall,y just looking for advice on whether it's worth switching to save a tiny bit or if I'm being crazy.

Saving lunch money on a cheaper host is usually not worth the hassle, there are sometimes little things that go wrong you can't anticipate

I've used these for a few small sites. no bad actually if you don't plan on pushing a lot of bandwidth.

^ that's dirt cheap. I only have my portfolio site which doesn't get that much traffic, but just need to keep it up and use my domain email.
Those are reliable?

http://1and1.com pretty cheap u can get hosting and domain for under $75 /yr
downside of cheap hosting is web app support but most support the main ones your wordpress , drupal , ecomm apps , just depends on what your site is made on , and how easy can u transfer your site files ( migrate)

You're being a cheapskate - but I also like DigitalOcean. I have a couple of their $80/mo droplets. Fast, nice. Good value.

Mediatemple is like $20/mo. Prices are all over the place.

So after over ten years with Lunarpages, they've been fucking the dog, and I want to change. Their emails servers are constantly blacklisted — which means my domain emails don't get delivered ... not good when you're job hunting — and they don't have the fileinfo PHP extension enabled, citing supposed memory problems with it. Not having fileinfo enabled means my concrete5 installation is nerfed.
What's a good, cheap-ish and *reliable* alternative, these days? Bonus points for Germany-based hosting, though I'll take a look at anything.
- I can't recommend a host, but when you do find someone, and you have access to admin functions - check this thread out, esp. Sted's responses:detritus

- This bastardry and my dropping off Google's first page of results has seriously fucked me this year :(detritus
- Oh my. My eyes are glazing over trying to make sense of any of this.Continuity
- Det, is your business really that reliant on Google? That must smart ...Continuity
- Most New Business beyond referrals from existing clients is, yeah. And yes, it very, very much does piss me off.detritus
- I did get a bit complacent - always been first page, and then last year made site mobile-ready and lite in accord with new SEO guidelines, and.. stats freefalldetritus
- Didn't realise until far, far too late. Gradually padding site out now, but it'll take time to get back up ranks.. if ever.detritus
- for email delivery, use a third party smtp service like Sendgrid. all discount hosting including AWS and DO will not deliver email reliablyspot13
