I cant fix it. Tried putting a white solid as the bottom layer, renders are still grey.

- Awesome, thank youCygnusZero4
- Yep. 'continuous rasterize' buttonbabaganush

Let's see some work. I could use some inspiration.

I think there's some limitation on continuous rasterize though. It might have to do with layer styles or 3d. I still scale up my vector pieces in illustrator and then scale down in ae.
- Can't imagine AI layer styles playing nice with it. But works fine with vector shapes in my experienceanimatedgif

could be a compression issue .. maybe
- zarkonite0
Is it a 3D layer? maybe there are lighting issues. Are you looking at your comp through the camera or the front view?
- CygnusZero40
It was a compression issues. Rendering as an mpeg4 for some reason was causing this. When I switch to no compression the bg is white. Wtf I dont remember ever having this problem before.
- I render as animation compression from After Effects, from there I use either Quicktime or Adobe Media EncoderRamanisky2

AE, and AI don't play nice, and they never will because Adobe is incompetent when it comes to workflow.
If you want to a AI path to be copied into AE as a mask, simply copy and paste the path. It should create a mask for you automatically.
In terms of AI layers, the best solution I've come across has been to export as a PSD. Depending if you need to preserve vector information, the only solution I've come across has been copy/paste.
If anyone has any other solution, I'd love to hear it.
- import ai file and right click convert to shape layers. This lets you animate strokes and such.dorkKn1ght
- Use vector masks in Photoshop to get masks in AE.CyBrainX

How does the copy and paste work. Out of Illustrator into AE? Thats not doing anything.
Im having a bitch of time trying to get a bunch of lines/strokes out of AI into AE as separate elements.
- Ramanisky20
in illustrator I normally set up the file just like a photoshop file where all parts to a logo for example are on separate layers.
then I import the entire file as an AI file into After Effects.
- That works except you won't be able to get editable type in AE directly from Illustrator.CyBrainX
- CygnusZero40
Ah I see. So after you do that and import into AE, is there an easy way to get all layers in as separate elements, or do you need to manually import each layer one at a time?
Im only seeing 2 options, import all as 1 layer which I dont want, and a drop down with all separate layers. Problem is I have like 50.
- import as a compRamanisky2
- and probably the option same layer dimensions so you don't get cropping and inconvenient anchor points.CyBrainX
- Ramanisky20
it should include one comp with the layers all in it
- if you've created the illustrator file correctly (separate layers) this will work :]vivid
- Ramanisky20
you should use the drop down menu to select
"Composition - Retain Layer Sizes"
- CygnusZero40
I have them all as separate layers in AI. When I go to import that file into AE I have 2 options. Merged Layers which is useless, and a drop down with each individual layer. No way to import all AI layers at once as separate elements in AE.
- make sure you're saving as AI and not eps fileRamanisky2
- It is AI.CygnusZero4
- CygnusZero40
I got it, it had to be imported as a new composition. I was just trying to import as footage. Alright I think im good, thanks all.
- CygnusZero40
One last issue. When I render my movie, even though the composition has a white background, it's rendering with a grey bg. Im certain I dont have any solids in this that would cause that. Could it be something in the render settings?
- twooh0
Cygnus,
"How does the copy and paste work. Out of Illustrator into AE? Thats not doing anything."Create a solid, copy and paste your path from Illustrator to AE.
- twooh0
Cygnus,
"it's rendering with a grey bg"Is your composition settings showing that your background is grey? If so, put in a solid BG with the color of your choice, and put it as the bottom layer.
- CygnusZero40
^ Nope, background set to white, see it as white in the work window, then render it and it comes up as grey.
- there must be a grey solid somewhere or maybe what you think is a white solid is really a light grey?Ramanisky2
