As far as I'm concerned - I'll put up wtih some videos on my facebook feed since it's meant that more than $70million has been raised for research into this terrible disease. They're mostly narcisistic - sure - but if it means there are breakthroughs in how it's treated and people like Patrick don't have go through this - then yeah, I'll SUFFER through it.

this is my lady doing the challenge, i've also done it and we've both given to the cause, would also like to add that we both give to macmillan cancer support charity as my mother in law has survived cancer, and my grandad unfortunately was taken by cancer, this ALS cause is a great idea and also a bit of fun.

And if you're wondering what I'm doing about it, when I'm home from vacation tomorrow, I'm sharing a few videos on Facebook that I watched, of people with the disease, talking about the condition and how brutal it is on their lives. I'd much rather devote time to actually educating people, or at least attempting to inform them about it. I spent a couple hours last night researching it and becoming familiar with it - time that was far more valuable and informative than dumping ice water on my head ever would be.
I may come off as a smug prick to people I know on FB, but I don't care. I've seen way too little sincerity and conviction around this from many people I know there. If I feel like playing a part, it will be to actually give people the tools to learn with, not to be entertained by.

I'm even more annoyed than I was before about this. Seeing way too many people not even mention ALS at this point. Seeing people put their tiny kids to the challenge because someone challenged the kid to do it. Pathetic.

From Patrick's (Transtaffy)Facebook Page...
Almost 10 years ago, Patrick Sean O'Brien was diagnosed with ALS. The article we posted yesterday was written with his eyes as he has been completely paralyzed and vent dependent for years. The only reason Patrick is able to share his story is because modern technology makes it possible. Medicare is threatening to remove this capability on Labor Day unless you tell them this unacceptable. Please visit this link to use your voice to save others. And ask everyone you know too.

was diagnosed with ALS at 30. I’ve been filming every angle of this disease for the last 10 years. In October, I’ll turn 40. Damn, where does the time go? I started shooting a film as a “f-ck you” to ALS. My cinematographer, Ian Dudley, has this old Russian 35mm camera with these amazing lenses. It was important to me that we get it down on film because ALS is a very physical disease. If it was going to steal my being, I would replace it with celluloid.

Is Transfatty still going? Great if he is...he must have been diagnosed close to 10 years ago??? Normal life expectancy after diagnosis is in the region of 2-3 years from what I hear...popular football coach here in Melbourne just diagnosed last year and he said something like that.

I nominate you for the 'give money to charity without being an attention seeking twat' challenge.

Did Patrick (Transfatty) ever get his movie finished? It was certainly funded.
