all the city kids i knew couldn't do simple tasks like change oil in a car, build anything let alone hammer in a nail properly, city kids might have some street smarts over the burb kids but god damn they seem to be lacking a lot of important life skills.

i know a bunch of not-rich folk and they seem to be coping fine. theyre not rolling in $$ and have to make a bunch of compromises, but i think the rewards outweigh the cons (for now). now being OLD in new york without $$ might be another matter

kids can get into more shit in the burbs/country than nyc. you can't really blow shit up or build flame throwers in manhattan.

live in NJ or CT, commute to NYC for work. Kids will be better off, if its truly about them.

4) if you are on welfare.
5) if you are immigrant and believe survival is what life is about.- welfare in NYC is codeword for Hassidic families...robotron3k

1) if you are rich or have a house.
2) If you can afford private school
3) if you have a house in the country where you can spend the summers with your children- a Japanese family of 5 lived in the 1 bedroom apt above me. impossibru is nothing...robotron3k
- If you been to japan then it makes sense.yurimon

Downside to raising kids in NYC... Each year two young representatives are selected by lottery to participate in a death match.

Unfortunately, you do have to be a rich bastard to give a quality life for your kids. Otherwise, it's going to be the NYC public schooling system and it's mostly a zoo there.
- <obviously you don't live there, children are in every borough, unlike San Fran...robotron3k
- My old neighbors in the West Village were very happy with the school district.CyBrainX

if you live in the boroughs you can do it.
- check out the article I posted, even the boroughs are a pricing nightmare for young familiesmonospaced

Yes, of course it's possible. Yes, there's a wealth of culture and educational experiences, and yes, rents are high and space is limited.
The way it's done is become a rich bastard who can afford private schooling and still have cash leftover to live comfortably. Sorry, this was a totally useless post, but you kinda answered your own question.
I was just reading this article, which is about this:
http://www.nytimes.com/2014/08/2…- then article about upper class white people. a majority are ethnic in NYC and live way differently and cheaper...robotron3k
- it's about the middle class, young couples, and to assume it's just whites is well... nevermindmonospaced

Is it possible to raise kids in NYC?
There's such a wealth of culture and educational experiences, but the rents are so high and space is limited. How do people actually afford enough space and have enough spare cash to live life comfortably?
