I'm wiping the drive and reinstalling OS X on my 2007 MBP because I can sell it for a couple hundred bucks. Love how Macs hold their value. This is mostly because people are willing to overpay for a used mac, but still.

SSD Hard Drive.
If you don't know what difference an SSD makes then you clearly don't care enough to improve it.

500 fonts seems like a lot. Perhaps use a font manager like Font Explorer and activate / deactivate as needed.
Get more RAM if possible.
Use CCleaner.
Make sure unused apps are closed.
Close the porn.
Verify drives using Disk Utility
Try installing the OS again
Check startup iems

If you've only got 4 gigs of RAM and are running Mavericks or thereabouts that's your problem. 8 gigs is better, 16 even more so with things like Creative Suite.
Otherwise, as others have mentioned, an SSD will make it like a new machine.

SSD and max the RAM, it does wonders.

~4 years is a good time to get a new machine.

I have a 2007 Mac Pro, 16 gigs ram and SSD. Runs like butter. Max your RAM and get a SSD.

My 2010 MBP 4GB RAM is running like shit. Can hear the old hard drive creaking. It was way faster when I got it, everything was snappy. Was getting worse but still ok until I got Mavericks, that pile of shit eats RAM and leaks it.
Not sure about a new Mac though, only noticeable improvement is retina.
