a nice plot twist thought but nah. think of all the promo $$$ invested so far basically tossed and soon forgotten, not to mention 'terrorist-level' threats that are being investigated, etc. Movie houses have also likely been affected, and so on. This is the sort of flick that makrs more in sales/rentals anyway.

I believe either Rogan and/or Franco had something to do with this hack. They were probably unhappy with the final edit and people in their respective camps proposed/supported the idea to turn this into some sensationalist digital campaign heist. NYC is full of pussies now and to pull this premier of a mediocre film is downright offensive and laughable. bullet and prophet are spot on - it's an SEO campaign at best. Amazing how you can leverage search and manipulate the media and social on a grand scale - I'm calling utter and complete bullshit.
North Korea is too busy manufacturing meth and trying to turn a buck in other directions to wield some far reaching cyber troll like this. It does make you wonder though, what better way to infiltrate the fear responses of the American public than by hitting some Access Hollywood, Entertainment Tonight, TMZ channel in a political way.

gay eminem.. i knew it!!!

This wasn't simply a promotional stunt for the movie it is PROPOGANDA and means of perpetuating this cold war with north korea. that bastion of truth and honesty US intelligence are the ones who are claiming North Korea are behind it, the same US intel that claimed Hussain had WMD and was involved in 911.
There's obviously a lot more to it. Why would NK hack a major corporation because a dictator was butt hurt over a movie? That would be stupid, they aren't stupid. US would like you to think they are though. Thats the point of the movie too, look NK are idiots.
- you never know the true hurt of what butt hurt really feels like.. until that day.. NK had teh right to butthurt uue-pill

its just going to get a huge release now next year and any Christmas premiers will get more audiences.
i don't trust what they say about any of these high profile hacks especially when it involves a movie premier. the people who do these hacks aren't what they appear to be.
- ukit20
Not saying it was actually North Korea but why does everyone keep saying that they don't have the capability to do this? North Korea built nuclear weapons. All "hacking" takes is a guy sitting in front of a computer.

- really though. question for me is why any country would want to. useless, there are slightly better ways of waging cyber war.uuuuuu

It's done. Sony killed it. Terrorists won.

Seriously though if N. Korea was really behind this then it is the most successful attack by N. Korea in my lifetime. Still they can't do anything on their own, they have to pay others (hackers) to create havoc. Congrats, this time it worked, damn right KJU will have a big head over this, but this was his first and last chance at cyber war. They'll shut his ass down real quick, doubt we see more of this style of attack from them. Probably came through Chinese connections since they keep strong ties to China and China is the leader of cyber attacks in the planet.
Now where the fuck is Anom? Fuckin pieces of shit, more concerned with getting people to hate cops. If Anom is so great why aren't they saying anything and standing up for Hollywood? Hollywood represents freedom of speech just as much as any other medium of communication. Fuckin clowns.
- Why on earth would anon be more concerned about helping Sony?!? And why all the effort over a shitty movie?err

How can anyone think this is logical to coward to NK? This is no different than letting the bully in the playground intimidate you. Worse, it sets a precedent that America will succumb to the wishes of terrorists.
So if someone makes fun of ISIS are we going to pull the SNL skit because they threaten us? Ridiculous.
I don't blame Sony and the theaters, they'll probably make 10x on the movie now when it goes gets to video, but for anyone to think it is anything more than acting like a coward and curling up in the corner is beyond me.
- Do you not understand the difference between a private company pulling the film and the govt pulling it?nb
- In this case, the company who OWNS THE MOVIE pulled it because they are afraid of losing money.nb
- Corporations cave to terrorist threats on a regular basis. They must look out for their best interests, they are not the govt.nb
- How would they lose money? They pulled it because they were afraid.formed
- they pulled it to create controversy, you think they are cowards? its the EXACT OPPOSITE, they are MEGA BRAVEMiguex
- BRAVE to pull off a stunt like that, corporate greed does not care what anyone thinks but moneyMiguex
- Sony basically just made North Korea their bitchMiguex

They did it with Saddam
I'm not saying Kim is innocent, but it is true that Hollywood makes a lot of propaganda. Also the amount of American's that watch American made war documentaries and take its contents as gospel is crazy.
- ukit20
As crazy as it sounds there might be some logic to them giving in to the hackers. Assuming they are really based in North Korea or China there is basically nothing the authorities can do in response. Meanwhile the hackers can continue to attack Sony. Sony can try to take security measures to defend themselves but they are a very large company presenting lots of targets, each of which will damage the company in terms of profits and reputation.
Once the hackers threatened violence on theatres showing the film, Sony told theatre owners they had the option of whether to show it or not. Most of them declined, and so Sony probably determined the cost of releasing the film at all was no longer worth it (not to mention the potential downside of having more damaging information leaked and the remote possibility of hackers actually attacking a theatre for which they would arguably be liable).
Also people seem to think it is the job of corporations to stand up for free speech, but that was never something they care about.
- Sony just wants to save their ass, they hope the hackers don't reveal everything. And I doubt it's NK.Frosty_spl
- It does seem ridiculous but now US government is saying it's NK

@Ponyboy: NOBODY is suggesting that America is "picking on" Kim Jong Un or that the North Korean government should be off the hook for the terrible things they've done to their people. You can't even begin to compare NK with the states. NK is fucked up. I get it.
My point is simply that Hollywood produces more propaganda films than anyone else.
The reason I bring it up, is that I hear people claiming that their rights are being taken away by not being able to see this movie. People are suggesting that Americans should support this movie to show their patriotism. You don't think that's fucked up? Again, I'm not saying that it's more fucked up than anything NK is doing. Just saying it's fucked up from American standards.
We don't need to compare the US and NK. They're not even remotely similar. And, nothing America does would justify what North Korea is doing.
Still, just because America is better than North Korea doesn't mean we should let America get a pass on it's propaganda. If your country only needs to be better than North Korea, well, that's a low bar to set. If your excuse for putting up with these shit films is "but North Korea is worse!" you should check yourself.
- in this case, 'stoner propaganda'prophetone
- I think it has been suggested by the threat of attack that in fact, America is picking on Kim with this movie. Maybe I'm wrong.monospaced
- I don't understand what you're saying, mono. Can you clarify?nb
- the 9/11 style written threat on theaters, I felt it implied it was America's blame for the filmmonospaced
