Where did this haircut come from, why is it so prevalent, and is it something barbers know how to do? I see a dude with this kind of hair every day.

This one is popular too. I asked my barber about it and he said if I wanted it I would have to really commit, since it requires a hard shaved line down the side which may or may not grow back properly, leaving you with a permanent bald line. No thanks.
