Any examples of websites that allow the end-user to move the content around on the screen. I remember that the old BBC News website allowed end-users to customize their user experience by moving content blocks around the page.

the only site that I can remember using this and that still uses it (for 1 element) is http://lineto.com/ (though it doesn't look like they ever update the site, they probably retired after the akkurat success or something).
besides the bbc.co.uk I also recall igoogle (in the google graveyard now) using this drag and drop customize stuff.
- code wise: look for 'sortable' (libraries or jquery or whatever framework)uan

Are there any other words to search for this type of interaction, besides "sortable", "moving blocks", "draggable content"?

We used drag and drop elements in a custom cms, it was great if you don't use IE
We also spent a long time working on a music news portal with drag and drop elements, client loved it, but users complained it was confusing
