Looking to pick up a mesh router for use in a 2 story home. We don't need the most expensive, just one that works well at a decent price. We're on a slim budget right now. Thanks!
What do you use?

As an aside, might you simply be able to relocate your current wi-fi point to somewhere more effective?

long cable and a 2nd router.
or stronger router with more antennas for 2 floors.

I upgrade my router to this https://www.synology.com/en-us/p… because my experience with their NAS systems has been so good. Its rad.
They now have a mesh lineup, that you can use standalone or with the RT2600ac.
- Heard good things about synology (some QBNers use them). I thought they were a premium brand though.Nairn

Here's an older thread on this

Because we had a google nest router we threw a couple additional points around the house when they went on sale recently.
I have an old ASUS AC1900 from my studio that you are welcome to have - consider it and let me know. I'll bath it in lysol before sending.

- I'm admittedly not sure if the asus is what you'd need, but we found a huge improvement vs the wireless modem solo.ben_
- Thanks for the offer ben. I think we need a mesh system for our house.dbloc

Been pretty happy with my recent upgrade to the Netgear Orbi system with FTTC NBN here in Melbourne.

I’m in the wilds in the mountains, and my neighbor was asking about using my internets when he’s around but signal won’t go that far - 100-150 ft. Is there a directional thing a I can use to focus it to him?
- That does exist. I just don’t know what it’s called. Saw a YouTube video the other day where a guy installed one so he could get WiFi a block away hahamonospaced
- use a repeater.cherub
- you can try replacing 1 Antenna with a High Gain Antenna (directional antenna)
or install a point to point 'ptp wifi bridge' with sender/receiveruan - If you've got an old wifi router, config it as a repeater, it's easy, and try where it gets the best signalOBBTKN
- before speniding any money, you might look into making a 'cantenna' DIY wifi directional antenna.Nairn

I bought what I think is an older version of the TP Link Deco system in September of last year and it's been great.
Not normally one to rant about products, but to my surprise the entire system "just worked," and it actually doubled my download speed over my old router.
Here's the model I have: https://www.amazon.com/gp/produc…

I recently bought the Netgear Nighthawk version. It’s fast BUT some of my devices have trouble switching between the two bases. I changed channels on both and that helped a bit. I’m considering moving the satellite to better assist with this. Overall though, I’m pleased.
- It’s also insane to see that my family has 19 devices connected to the network. Phones, Alexa ‘the lady in the kitchen’ as we cal her, desktop, and laptops.misterhow
