the whole idea of what a phone is has changed so drastically with the rise in popularity of cellphones, yet the form factor remains shockingly the same as a plain old corded telephone. i can't even remember the last time i used the number keys to place a call.
more often than not, the numeric pad is used to type out alpha messages. what sense does that make?
i would agree with that these are mostly a show of aesthetics vs fulfilling the needs of the new mobile user. nothing wrong with eyecandy though.
