It's easy to hijack anything without a plane. For some reason no one ever intercepts anything by themselves, so it takes times for everyone to get together and do something about the situation. Also, you'd have to be batshit crazy to hijack something like that for reasons like that, so the normal people are generally scared about what other crazy thing this psycho person is going to do.
And yes, the Pope is also insane. Everyone is crazy.
