yeah sounds like this was blown way out of proportion from the get go, but you never know – the height of the tsunami is far less important than the power behind it. and 16 inches becomes a lot nastier once it comes up on shallow water.
a really bad tsunami in Kona in the 40s (ish) killed loads of people, and it was only a 1 inch tsunami technically speaking - then it came ashore and got massive because it was moving so fast
