actually, the subframe issue has occurred in bmw and to a much lesser degree, some porsches. we have a 328ci which has also been modified and been driven like it was stolen, and a couple of years ago the subframe weakened and threatened to separate from the diff mount. there's a lawsuit going on w/bmw since they won't repair it and it wasn't really cheap to fix.
still love that car but disappointed that they'd produce it assuming that it would only take a certain degree of stress. i know it was really only a problem w/the e46 generation and it wouldn't turn me off from getting an m roadster or coupe necessarily.
not prepared to buy right away, but once in a while i get car crazy and can't stop looking and comparing!
