I do it manually, though in quite a regimented fashion.
I don't see the point in doing full machine backups, nor am I organised enough to ensure that I've put everything in the appropriate 'to be backed up' folders - so periodically, I sort by Last Modified, then dump all my Work, Fonts, My Docs and crap on an external. Every 6-8 months, I put all that to DVD.
Back when I did try scheduling, I always found it coming on at 2am as specified, right when I was in the middle of something. Nor do I like leaving machines on 24/7.
Every day, I backup recently worked-on key files on another internal drive and upload relatively complete versions online, 'just in case'.
Reading this back, I wonder whether I might actually be organised.
