Well.. depends what you are after.
    - First of all... since you're in vicenza don't miss Venice and Padova. You can go on Venice for the Carnevale, i think is something priceless.

And since you're in veneto and you're an architect there's some Palladio Villas around there. (towards Treviso / Padova). Can't remember exactly where but would be easy to find them

    - On april or anyway around Easter in Milano there is the "salone del mobile" with the related fuorisalone. Really nice and funny.
    And lot of free booze.
While in milano, pay a visit to the Triennale, and to the New Exibition place by Fuksas.

Then well, Rome and Florence for sure, some day in Rimini and /or Bologna (maybe a weekend).
And if you got time southern Italy. From Vicenza you can easily reach Vienna, Budapest and the Germany. From Treviso airport you'll find ryaniar flights for London and maybe Paris (i'm not sure)

And if you're in the mood for skiing, the alps are really there. Maybe avoid Cortina which is sooo expensive, but is plenty of good locations there.
