    I think the term graphic artist is very outdated and dates back to people like abram games or mcknight Kauffer:

    I don't think there is a modern day equivilent in the design world because now all the jobs are split up, but it used to be that a graphic artist would do the concept and the final drawing/painting including typography (often hand drawn).
    The only thing I can think of that compares now is a graphic novelist.

    I suppose now an artworker would be a close term, or 'creative artworker'

    A graphic designer should be an equivilent except most don't draw or paint or airbrush anymore.
