I've worked on PCs, and I've worked on Macs.

Let me tell you something: even if you're just a student, your time is worth something.

I own an average computer for 3 years. If the Mac costs $3000 more, it will cost me $1000 more per year. If my time is worth only $20 an hour, all I have to do is save 50 hours per year of the inevitable extra fucking around I would have to do with a PC to get the fucker to work properly. And I don't mean to play games! I mean print to a variety of printers, send files, post things to the web, ftp things, email reliably, edit a video a client wants on a site, have an easy-to-set-up wireless connection, backup my phone, and all the millions of details I have to take care of in a day as a freelance, independent businessperson. I easily save an hour per week in hassle by using Macs, so, at the end of the each year, since my time is worth substantially more than $20 per hour, I'm dollars ahead using a Mac.

Now, in the past few years, all the time I've saved by using Macs I've had to turn around and waste on my wife's fucking PC! And I got so sick of ruining weekends and staying up late sorting shit on her PC, that I bought her a Mac!

Go ahead and buy a cheap PC. But just remember that purchase price is not the only cost of using the computer. And until you've worked out all the costs, don't come around all smart-assy pretending you've figured everything out.
