I don't think Step is really that great. Their negative leading type style for callouts bothers me. Not sure that was Robert Valentine's best work.
I think Print is great, though my boss disagrees... not sure why. I also like CA. I won't say their layout or typography is bad by any means, but it is pretty boring compared to many other design mags. At least you can read their paragraphs though, which is more than one can say of Grafik.
