Other than Shortys and the places next to it on 2nd Ave (The Crocodile, Lava Lounge, etc... )I would recommend staying out of the 1st Ave scene in Belltown. It's kind of lame.
Go to Ballard (Neighborhood in Seattle). The Tractor Tavern, Kings, 90% of the bars there are great. Just good drinking bars and everything is walking distance. The crowd there is always pretty cool too.
Ballard also has some of the best places to eat too. I recommend La Carta de la Oaxaca. Siiiick food, good beer and great Margaritas. Also good photography on the walls.
